On Our Plates: Thanksgiving Menu 2019

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays! I love the food, the company, the smells, the leftovers. All of it. This year, I am cooking for a larger group than I have in the past. My family has always been a more the merrier type of group, so I am very excited to be hosting a mix of family, old friends, and new friends.
If you’re looking for some inspiration on what to cook I am sharing my menu below. I hope this helps when planning your meal.
Y’all I get a turkey with the thing that pops out when it is fully cooked and use this recipe from Reynolds Kitchen. The turkey comes out perfect every time and I feel like a way better cook than I actually am. This is really a prep it, put it in the oven and forget about it (sort of).
sausage and sweet potato stuffing
This is hands down the best stuffing I have ever had. Prior to making this, I wasn’t the biggest fan of stuffing. It needs to be soft, but not mushy. And it can’t be hard either. I just never had much luck with stuffing at Thanksgiving, so I always skipped it until Ali shared this recipe.
One of my favorite veggies mixed with my favorite breakfast side. Sign me up. I’ve made this the last two years and it always delivers.
balsamic honey roasted brussel sprouts
I haven’t made this recipe yet, but I saw it the other day on Pinterest when I was meal prepping and my mouth watered. I knew I had to add it to the veggies for the meal especially since there will be more than 2-3 people at our Thanksgiving this year. How good does this look?
To be honest, I am not a fan of cranberry sauce, but my husband and others love it. In years past, I have purchased the canned version (gasp!), but this year I want to make this three ingredient cranberry sauce. Fingers crossed it gets rave reviews.
Since my oven is usually taken over by the turkey followed by stuffing I don’t have the space to make a pie and serve it warm, so I found this apple crisp recipe from one of my favorite food bloggers, Ali from Gimme Some Oven, that can be made in the crockpot. You do need to change out the paper towels occasionally to make sure the crisp stays crisp, but it is so freaking good and easy which is all I want out of a recipe.
We made mashed potatoes this way once from a Blue Apron meal and we keep returning to it over and over again. We like our mashed potatoes chunkier and not creamy, so we don’t spend a ton of effort and time getting them smooth. Don’t worry about anything else in the recipe except the mashed potatoes. Sorry, Blue Apron didn’t have a stand-alone recipe.

I hope this inspires your Thanksgiving Day menu! What are some of your favorites you make every year? Let me know if you make any of these and how you like them. As always, enjoy!
