Three Things I Learned From My Mom
Whenever Brian and I are not feeling our most productive or want to be lazy we always tell ourselves, “Be like Laurie Lowrie.” My mom is one of the most selfless people I have ever met. She is the hardest worker I know. And she always puts others before herself. In honor of Mother’s Day, I wanted to share X things my mom has taught me.
Happiness is a Choice. Not a Thing or a Place
My mom has always told me, “you can get glad in the same pants you got mad in.” And while I hated it when she would tell me this, I always knew she wasn’t wrong. My mom makes the best out of every day and situation. She’s not one to let circumstances ruin her day. She always chooses to be happy because life is too short to waste it being angry, sad or mad.
Girls Can Do or Be Anything
When I was a child, we built a barn and pastures on my parent’s property. My mom took a welding class at the local community college, so she could help weld the fence for the pastures. She spent the summer working with one other person to weld and paint the entire fence. As a child, I remember thinking my mom was so cool and tough. As an adult, I still think those things, but badass is added to the list. She always leads by example that girls can do anything. And she never made me feel like I couldn’t do something because I was a girl.
The Importance of Being Kind
I can honestly say I’ve never heard my mom gossip or say mean things about any one. She exudes kindness and often extends it to those who I would say don’t always deserve it (and we all know those are the people who need it most). She always showed us kids how it is so important to give back and to be kind in every interaction on every day in life.
Happy Mother’s Day out there to all the moms, step-moms, mother figures, soon to be moms, etc. What have you learned from your mom?
xx,
Linds
