Style Sessions: Denim Shorts
Yesterday, I styled denim shorts with four awesome ladies - Adriana, Gloria, Erin and Megan. If you missed how they styled their denim shorts be sure to check them out before our stories disappear. These ladies have some serious style y’all and are super body positive. I will be copying a few of their looks in the coming weeks.
Not going to lie, but this session made me a bit nervous. I don’t show my legs often.
Growing up, I loved my legs. They were one of my favorite features, but I was very active and tanned regularly at a tanning salon (glad those days are behind me). Now, after living in Ohio for the last three years, my legs have barely seen the sun, so I’m a bit shy about how pale they truly are. And I’m not nearly as active as I was in high school.
But I’m so glad I took this small risk because it is so important to be real on an app that doesn’t always reward realness AND I live in Vegas now. Shorts will be in regular rotation once these cold snaps stop gracing us with their presence. We need to love ourselves for who we are now and not who we hope to be when we lose 5 more pounds or when we are tan or whatever else is that when might be.
I wanted to recap my four looks for y’all and share the links for items here in case you aren’t a fan of using LIKEtoKNOW.it.
look one
kimono: similar and similar // shirt // shorts: similar // shoes // earrings // necklace // lip color
I would wear this look to run errands, go to brunch, or have a casual hangout with friends. I’ve had this Loft kimono for a few years and I absolutely love it. I feel it adds a bit of polish to a rather casual look because if you remove the kimono it’s a simple white tee, with denim shorts and sandals. I recently purchased these Sam Edelman sandals, and they are so comfortable and easy to wear with almost everything in my closet. You cannot see it in this image, but I am wearing a morse code necklace that says “badass.” I love it because it is like a secret reminder to me when I wear it.
look two
jacket: similar and similar // shirt: similar // shorts: similar // shoes // earrings // necklace // lip color
Brian and I are headed to an Aviators game tonight and I think I will wear some version of this outfit. The graphic tee paired with the shorts and the Converse are so easy and feel effortlessly cool for a sporting event or a brewery. I love this Sub Urban Riot tee. I’ve had it for a few years, but I still love the idea of Good Vibes and the reminder I get to share Good Vibes when wearing it. Due to the cold snaps we’ve had to Vegas lately, I added this fatigue jacket to keep warm.
look three
blazer // shirt // shorts: similar // shoes // earrings // necklace // lip color
I went a bit out of my comfort zone with this look as I would not normally grab these Madewell leopard flats to style with denim shorts, but I really like this look and cannot wait to wear it during my day to day. As I mentioned, it’s been a bit chillier in Vegas than I expected during the morning and evening, so I layered my J. Crew sweater blazer over my Madewell courier shirt to keep my warm. I love the style of this courier shirt. I own it in three or four different colors. The look is polished and classic without feeling stuffy.
look four
cardigan // shirt: similar // shorts: similar // shoes // earrings // necklace // lip color
I can’t help myself with denim on denim outfits. I love monochromatic looks and denim on denim is so classic when done right. Tip: be sure to keep the denim in two different washes. I always keep my top lighter and my pants or shorts darker. Again, due to the cold in Vegas, I topped this look off with a simple gray cardigan. This denim button-up is old from TJ Maxx, but I linked a similar option.
bonus look
swimsuit: similar and similar // shorts: similar // shoes // earrings // necklace // lip color // hat
With the upcoming holiday weekend, I wanted to share a pool or lake look for those who might be celebrating around the water. I threw on my black one-piece I purchased for our honeymoon two years ago, my shorts, my new Sam Edelman sandals, and topped it off with the Brixton Joanna hat for sun protection. I would wear this while BBQ-ing around the pool or hanging out on a boat.
