Metz Get Dressed: Tuck Your Shirt

Happy week four of Metz Get Dressed. This week let’s style an outfit with a different shirt tuck than what you usually style.

For me, I’m a huge fan of the half tuck (or as I like to call it “the mullet tuck”, but it’s really a “french tuck” which sounds more appealing), so fully tucking my shirt feels a bit out of my comfort zone. And this styling allows me to define my waist a bit more. Now I know this is not ground breaking, but for me this is a change in how I normally style an outfit.

The French Tuck

If you’re new to tucking your shirt, this is the best option for you. To achieve this look, tuck just the front center of your shirt and leave the rest of your shirt untucked. It’s a great way to define your waist without making it the focal point of your outfit. I love this option for almost anything - simple t shirt, oversized sweater, or long button down.

The Half Tuck

This is a tuck I have yet to master, but hope to incorporate into my styling. The half tuck is best achieved with button ups given you can separate the front of the article of clothing making it easier to tuck one side in and leave the other out. Pair this look with a structured blazer to keep it from looking too sloppy.

The Full Tuck

Tucking in your shirt in all the way can feel a bit 90’s family photo at times, but if executed properly can make a outfit look polished. To achieve this look, tuck your shirt in all the way and raise your arms above your head like you would at your favorite concert to achieve the perfect amount of untuck. Voila, the perfect full tuck.
