Why I Am Giving Mules A Chance
Maybe I'm scarred from my late 90's/earlier 2000's fashion choices (raise your hand if you remember the 90's Steve Madden slides), but I had the hardest time coming around to the mule trend. I adamantly put my foot down back in September and told a Nordstrom consultant "no way" on a pair of mules they suggested when I was shoe shopping.
But alas, I was wrong.
The mule trend won me over when I saw these Toms Majorca Sandal (yup, these are Toms) beauties that go with everything. First things first, who doesn't want to get behind a brand with such a wonderful mission to provide a pair of shoes to someone for every pair purchased? Second, similar to the Toms slip-on shoes we are all so familiar with these are incredibly comfortable.
So I'm giving mules a chance and here's why.
They are chic enough to wear to the office or special event but also laid back enough for the weekend.
Nothing pains me more than when I find an article of clothing or shoe or whatever, and it can only be worn at the office, to a special event or on the weekend. My closet and budget are not large enough to reserve pieces for only one place. I need versatility to make the purchase the most worthwhile.
Some days you just need to kick your shoes off under your desk.
Some days at work are just harder than others and it is nice to release some weight (e.g. your shoes). But anything with laces or boots or trickier slip-ons are not easy to quickly take on and off as you run from meeting to meeting. Mules, however, are like the more socially accepted slipper for everyday life.
If you're on the fence, I would encourage you to give it a try. As my mom would always remind me, "Never say never."
xx,
Linds
