Style Sessions: Summer to Fall
September is here! And now that we are back east and in a chillier part of the country, I am ready for all the sweaters that I missed so much while we lived in Vegas, for the leaves to change, to get cozy, and do all the hiking and apple picking fall will allow. Call me basic, but I really do love fall.
Today, I am teaming up with two wonderful ladies on Instagram - Joanne of Fabulously Average and Megan of Budget and Brunch - to share how we are taking a few key pieces in our wardrobe from summer to fall. It is so important to me to curate a closet that is versatile in wearing a piece multiple ways and across seasons. I want to be intentional with the pieces I bring in to my closet, and I want to encourage you to not feel like you need to buy a whole new wardrobe each season.
Jewelry throughout linked here: first hole earrings, second hole earrings or similar, necklace, and similar necklace. And here are the links for my rug and rug pad. Lastly, lip color is linked here and nail color is linked here.
Sunglasses are KREWE, and truthfully, I do love the way they look. However, the company has been called out for racial inequality and a lack of workplace diversity and inclusion by former employees. I can’t recommend them as I feel these issues need to be addressed before I feel comfortable purchasing again. I’ll be keeping an eye on their progress.
I try my hardest to link my pieces or similar pieces where ever possible, however, if I can’t find something similar from a brand I trust or feel like is quality there won’t be a link. I don’t want to recommend something of poor quality. We all work WAY TOO HARD for our money to spend it on pieces that won’t last.
black bodysuit
SUMMER // purse: similar // bodysuit: similar and similar // shorts // shoes: similar
FALL // purse: similar // bodysuit: similar and similar // cardigan: similar and similar // belt: similar // jeans: similar // shoes
I was slow to jump on the bodysuit train, but I am so glad I finally gave it a chance. They are incredibly easy to wear, and I love how smooth they lay as opposed to tucking in a shirt. This sleeveless bodysuit can go from summer to fall by adding pants and a cardigan over it then change out accessories from basket weave to calf hair and espadrilles to close-toed mules and you’re golden.
dotted midi skirt
SUMMER // skirt // top: similar (on sale + 30% off) // shoes: not available // purse: similar
FALL // skirt // sweater: not available // shoes // purse
Let’s chat about this skirt real quick. I had a pleated navy with white polka dots midi skirt that I purchased in 2009 and I was in love with it. However, it had seen its time and needed to be replaced. Enter this slip black and white version. I find that it is even more versatile in a black version AND the slip style feels way more slimming than the pleats. But don’t get me wrong, I love a good pleated skirt.
Swap your tank for a sweater, your strappy sandals for sneakers, and your basket weave purse for a leather purse. Also, fun trick, tuck your bulky sweater into your bra strap instead of the waistband. This gives you the illusion of a crop sweater without the bulk in your waistband.
black t-shirt dress
SUMMER // dress // hat // shoes // purse
FALL // dress // cardigan: similar and similar // shoes // purse
This shirt dress was a new addition to my wardrobe during the quarantine. I love how easy it is. Plus it is short enough to be considered a mini, but not so short that it is uncomfortable to wear for a day sitting at my desk. Add a heavy cardigan and leather loafers and you have yourself an early fall look.
white button down
SUMMER // shirt and similar // shorts // shoes // purse: similar
FALL // shirt and similar // pants: similar // shoes: similar // jacket // purse
A white button-down can truly transcend ALL seasons. In the summer, I will wear it as a swimsuit coverup or as a breezy top with shorts. In the fall, if you layer it with jackets, cardigans, or blazers you have a sleek polished look. For this, I swapped shorts for jeans, added booties, changed to a more seasonal purse, and added a surplus jacket in olive.
Also, these snakeskin booties are a fave of mine that I haven’t worn as much as I’d like thanks to COVID. Shoes are a great way to dabble in trends without going all in. Animal print is a great way to add texture and interest to your look.
What pieces are you taking from summer to fall?
