Style Sessions: Black Midi Dress

I recently identified a hole in my fall wardrobe with a black midi dress and I’ve been on the hunt for the last few weeks. I spotted this one and instantly knew it was what I was looking for. This dress is so comfy and the perfect length for fall! It is ribbed knit and I sized down to a small.

I partnered with Joanne from Fabulously Average to style our black dresses for fall. We had so much fun styling the long trench vest with each other we decided to do it again! Be sure to stop by her Instagram and blog to see how she styled her dress.

Now on the looks…

You’ve seen this look more than once in the last couple of weeks. I love dressing things down with comfy sneakers and a denim jacket. Comfy and casual are two of my descriptors for my wardrobe and this look accomplishes both.

You saw this look during the trench vest styling session, but I love this look. The trench vest really caps off this look. And the leopard booties add some fun to a neutral look. Plus, these booties are so comfortable. I would wear this to the office, out to meet girlfriends or a date night.

For this look, I topped the dress off with a grey cardigan. Adding a cardigan provides a new look and extra warmth during the chillier months.

If I were still in Ohio, this would be a look I would rock to the office regularly. However, it doesn’t rain here in the desert, so this is just a dream. I love these rain boots because they are functional, but they don’t look like rain boots. I wore them to the office a ton in the fall and spring in Ohio. There is nothing I hated more about snow and rain than when it would ruin cute shoes. BONUS: The jacket and boots are on sale PLUS an additional 30% off!

I decided to experiment with a layer under the dress instead of over for this look. I took a simple white button-up and rolled the sleeves and exposed the collar. This look feels very chic and office-appropriate.

Lastly, I grabbed my favorite suede moto jacket and leopard booties. These two pieces are go-to’s for me in the fall as they dress up any look with little effort.

Earrings are Natalie Borton and unfortunately, not available. But, she does have some items available on Madewell.com or when she launches another collection on her website I have a discount code for you.

So tell me, do you like these looks? What’s your favorite? Tell me in the comments.

xx,

Lindsae
