13 in books in 2018
Prior to the new year, Brian's family makes predictions for the upcoming year (more on this later). The topics range anywhere from how many miles are on someone's car to who will win People's Sexiest Man Alive to who will win the World Series. You get one point for every correct prediction and the winner gets bragging rights for the year.
The last item on the list isn't much of a prediction, but a "lofty, yet achievable" goal to accomplish for the year ahead and it's worth five points. For 2015, I chose to read 12 books in 12 months.
Reading was something I wanted to prioritize more, and I felt like knowing the big point score at the end of the year would play into my competitive nature which would encourage me to complete the goal. Fast forward to the end of 2015, and I read 11.5 books. My last book, Deep Survival: Who Lives and Who Dies and Why by Laurence Gonzales, while amazing was a hard last read. I was a little down on myself for not completing the goal, and as a result, I didn't prioritize reading in 2016.
In 2017, I decided to give it another go, and two weeks before the end of the year, I finished my 12th book. It was such a fun year of learning, growing and connecting through reading, and it didn't hurt I had five points added to my prediction total score.
All of this to say, I upped my goal to 13 books in 12 months in 2018. I've read 3 of 13 books so far this year, and I have a dilemma -- there are so many books I want to read with so little time. I need help prioritizing what to read next and next and next. I have more than 13 books in my "want to read" self on Good Reads.
Here is what I've read so far:
Into The Water by Paula Hawkins
The Wife Between us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen
The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman
And here is what is on my list to read in no particular order:
The Alice Network by Kate Quinn
Children of the New World by Alexander Weinstein
