Style Sessions: Denim Skirt
I haven’t owned a denim skirt since late high school or maybe early college, so it took me a bit of time to find the right fit and one that felt most in line with my current style. Not to say women in their 30’s can’t wear what women in their 20’s wear, but I was looking for one that felt a little less college.
I landed on this one from Madewell. It has a nice A-line cut to it which makes it feel less constricting and feel less like a mini skirt to me. Since it is looser around the thighs I don’t find myself feeling the need to constantly adjust how it fits. Also, pairing it with flats or low heels it keeps the skirt from feeling shorter than the actual length.

This will be a go to outfit for me this summer. I am in love with this tank top (I bought it in three colors). The knot front is such a fun detail and I can adjust the knot to hit just right depending on what kind of bottom I am wearing. So for high waisted items, I can knot the tank a bit higher to give myself a waist. I was skeptical about the belt bag at first because I have nightmares from my childhood with fanny packs, but I am here for this trend. Truthfully, I hope it sticks around for a while. I love how the bag gives you a waist AND leaves your hands free.

For look #2, I wanted to show that this skirt could fit my style, but still be dressed up for a date night without having to add high heels. I paired the skirt this very feminine top. It is a bit sweeter than I would normally gravitate towards, but I felt the color, material, and ultimate style was in line with what I was looking for, and I loved the light material and ruffle sleeve detail. I added the lace up espadrilles for a pattern and the straw clutch for some texture. When I originally purchase the espadrilles, I was worried they wouldn’t be comfortable, but they are incredibly comfortable and a great spring and summer shoe. I topped the look with two gold coin necklaces to fill in the neckline.

When I last owned a denim skirt, I loved pairing it with tennis shoes and graphic tee for game days or a casual, but cute look. I purchased this College Football graphic tee last year from Riff Raff when they launched their GAMEDAY + SEC collection (fingers crossed they bring it back this year). It felt appropriate given my husband’s job and it was neutral in terms of team colors. I added my low top chucks, my fave black leather purse (I purchased it last year in the Nordstrom sale, so fingers crossed it’s on sale again because it is oh so good), and this bandana for a pop of school spirit.
