Best Fall + Winter Wardrobe Additions of 2021

The past few weeks I have been reviewing my closet from the perspective of “what items have I had the longest and why have I kept them.” You can review both posts, Six Items I’ve Owned for 10+ Years and 4 Coats I’ve Owned for 5+ Years. It has been really eye-opening to review the items that make the cut each time the closet gets cleaned out and why they continue to make the cut.

And in this reflection, I’ve also started to look more closely at the new items I’ve purchased in 2021. In doing so, I’m asking myself why did I purchase these items, how did they add to my closet, and what new items have the ability to be in my closet for a long time.

With that, I wanted to share the best fall + winter additions to my closet from 2021.

J.Crew Teddy Coat

I have wanted a teddy coat for years! YEARS! I was a bit worried that getting one now would be on the back end of the trend, but now that I own it I don’t really care if this trend goes away. Originally, I wanted one in camel, but this season they tended to lean a bit too orange for my liking, and this cream version is like no other coat I have in my closet. I’ve worn it out with girlfriends, and over a matching sweatsuit to run errands.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: The cut of this coat makes the unique texture more classic and I can see myself wearing this for many falls and winters to come.

Anine Bing Blazer

As I mentioned in my Style Sessions: Anine Bing Fishbone Blazer, I pined over this blazer for weeks before I made the purchase. I saw it first on Alyson Haley and fell in love. I tried to find dupes, but everything left me wanting more. This blazer is such a good addition to my closet as it fills a gap in my closet and helps me complete so many outfits.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: For so long I’ve looked for a blazer that fits me just right, and FINALLY this is the blazer.

Marc Fisher OTK Boots

I blame this purchase on my obsession with Be There in Five and Taylor Swift, and truthfully, I’m not mad about it at all. I know, I know, OTK boots have had their moment since the 2010s, but I’m just now being called to them. I feel like the badass boss that I know I am every time I put these on.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: Black OTK boots will be something that will always look sleek + the block heel keep them comfy.

Brixton Fisherman’s Cap

I truly do love hats, and when I saw this one on Alyson Haley (see Anine Bing Blazer post above) I wanted to wear this hat and transport myself to a pub somewhere abroad. It’s a nice change-up from a ball cap, and it feels more purposeful than a ball cap.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: Hats are a great accessory, and this one feels less casual than a giant fedora but more polished than a ball cap. It strikes a great balance I didn’t have in my closet before.

Caslon Lug Sole Boots

I first spotted these in the Nordy’s Sale last year and was so drawn to them. Especially living up north, I knew I needed something that looked cute, but could withstand the weather. The lug sole on these has so much traction, and they aren’t so chunky that I feel like a bratz doll. Mine are almost sold out, but I linked a few others.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: I had heeled booties and short chelsea boots, but everything wouldn’t have made it through the winters here in Ohio. There boots keep my outfits cute without having to wear my snow boots.

Sheertex Tights

Too many cheap tights have fallen victim to runs and holes, and I was looking for a higher quality pair that will last for more than just a couple of wears AND these are it! I’ve worn them a few times, and I’m very impressed.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: I am making the switch to higher quality items that last and Sheertex tights are just that.

Sezane Sweater

I’m just out here trying to live my French girl dreams with this sweater. I love this sweater so much because it is a loose enough knit that it could be worn with shorts for a chilly summer night, but warm enough for fall and winter days as well. The cream and blue version is sold out, but I would suggest setting an alert for it. They did release a cream and rose version that is equally as gorgeous.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: French girl style is always something I am working to achieve and this sweater helps me get closer to that goal.

xx,

Linds
